Overview

The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) at Sonargaon University (SU) offers a B.Sc. program designed to develop skilled and professionally competent naval architects and marine engineers. Established in January 2014, the department is proud to be the first and only private university department in Bangladesh offering a B.Sc. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The department combines strong academic foundations with practical engineering education, modern laboratory facilities, ship design activities, and hands-on industrial and shipyard training.

The department focuses on ship design and construction, marine and offshore engineering, hydrodynamics, marine structures, engineering analysis, and related maritime technologies. Students benefit from specialised laboratories, including the Ship Design Lab, Drawing Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Structure of Mechanics Lab, and Machine Shop & IC Engine Lab, supporting both theoretical learning and practical skill development.

SU NAME also emphasises research, professional development, seminars, workshops, industrial visits, training, and collaboration with national and international universities, research organizations, and maritime industries.

Graduates are prepared for careers in shipbuilding and ship design, shipping, marine and offshore industries, government and regulatory organisations, Navy and Coast Guard-related sectors, research, consultancy, and academia, both in Bangladesh and abroad.
